Australia Day 2025

Australia Day is celebrated at The Broadford and District Historical Society and people come from near and far to see the display and renew friendships. 2025 saw the society celebrate The Broadford Shire, Councillors, and employees. Rita Jones Mystery

On Boxing Day 1899, eight year old Rita crossed the bridge over Sunday Creek, Broadford on her way to buy some apricots for her mother. She was spotted later crossing the bridge on her return journey. She then disappeared.

Captain Arthur Craven Jowett

In 1943 Arthur Craven Jowett acquired Clonbinane Park, where he and his wife Evelyn raised their family and contributed to the life of the district. His years at Clonbinane link the Jowett name with the pastoral and community history of the region. The story also carries forward through an artistic connection with Italian–Australian artist Bruno Leti, whose later works were inspired by Clonbinane and its landscape.
