A Remarkable Season for the Broadford & District Historical Society

The past few months have been an exciting and productive time for the Broadford & District Historical Society. At our recent Annual General Meeting, members gathered to reflect on a year of growth, renewed engagement, and steady progress. We are pleased to announce the election of our new committee, who bring a strong mix of experience, energy, and commitment to guiding the Society through the year ahead.

October History Month was a standout success, marking our most popular program to date. Thanks to the enthusiasm of our community and the exceptional work of our volunteers, we achieved record engagement across our Facebook page, with posts reaching thousands and sparking conversations well beyond Broadford. Visitors to the precinct, both local and from further afield, showed tremendous interest in our displays and stories. This level of connection reflects the growing appetite for local history and the strength of our volunteers’ efforts. A very warm and heartfelt thank you goes to every volunteer who contributed time, creativity, and passion.

Congratulations to all raffle winners!

A heartfelt thank you to our prize donors:

We are also proud to celebrate a major milestone: the publication of Portable Police Lockups, a landmark book by Allan Stute and Bob Tomkins. This extensive and meticulously researched volume documents the history, construction, and evolution of Victoria’s portable police lockups, including our own Broadford example. It represents years of effort and collaboration. We are thrilled to share this achievement with the community and look forward to the awareness and interest it will generate. The Zolnierczyk Family

Eugene Zolnierczyk has compiled the history of The Zolnierczyk Family, from early life in Belarus, to survival in war times in Europe, and how the journey to Australia came to be, including life thereafter. Survival, and family, are key standouts in this book.
The Broadford and District Historical Society have these books available for purchase – $30.
